For pergola manufacturers
A pergola has rules. A form does not know them.
The customer writes that they want a pergola for a 5 × 3 patio. You know that at that span the profile changes, that the screen is out of stock in that colour, and that mounting onto a timber deck is a different product. The configurator knows it too — before the enquiry reaches a salesperson.
Where a pergola breaks an ordinary form
The dimension is not a free number. Past a certain span the beam is no longer enough and either the profile changes or a post is added — which is a different price and a different installation. A customer who types 6 metres into a form gets a quote the salesperson has to redraw straight afterwards.
Accessories are not independent either. A side screen cannot go where there is no bay. The LED strip fits the blades only on some models. A rain sensor only makes sense with a rotating roof. Each of those dependencies is one question in a phone call that did not have to happen.
What the engine holds
Dimensional limits per model line, the number of bays and posts, the mounting method, blade orientation, side infills and accessory compatibility. The customer sees the pergola in 3D as they would receive it, and has no way to assemble a variant you would not build.
The geometry is computed, not modelled. Changing a dimension does not redraw a picture, it recalculates the structure — so adding a new size range means changing a rule, not commissioning new 3D models.
How pricing works here
The pergola engine carries no price list of its own — pricing is wired to your rules. That is the difference from fences, where the price list is part of the engine. In practice it means we go through how you quote and write that calculation into the configurator; it can price live, or it can collect the configuration and leave the number to the salesperson.
Whether the customer sees a price is your decision. Some companies show it and some will not; the same engine serves both.

- A span past the model’s limit calls for a heavier profile or another post — the configurator does that itself.
- Accessory compatibility
- Screens, glazing, lighting and sensors are offered only where they can actually be fitted.
- Mounting
- Concrete, paving and a timber deck are not the same installation or the same price.
- Colours and finishes
- Only the shades you really supply, surcharges outside the standard range included.
